Documents Needed for Voting
When you register to vote and when you vote in person you will need to show certain documents.
When registering to vote in Michigan you will need:
Identification. Acceptable documents include:
A Michigan Driver’s License Number
A Michigan Personal ID number
The last four digits of your Social Security Number
After October 24th, you also need proof of residency. Acceptable documents include:
Michigan driver’s license or state ID
Current utility bill
Bank statement
Paycheck or government check
Other government document
Your address on Wolverine Access, if you live in Ann Arbor
When registering in another state please refer to your state’s requirements.
When voting in person on Election Day or picking up your absentee ballot in person in Michigan you will need:
A photo ID. Acceptable forms of identification include:
MCards
Driver’s Licenses
Other state IDs
Passports
If you don’t have a photo ID, you can still vote—you’ll just need to sign an affidavit
One Stop Shopping at Clerk’s Offices
If you are planning on going to the clerk’s offices to both register to vote and request your absentee ballot, you must bring both your registration ID (Michigan Driver’s License, Personal ID, or your Social Security Number) and a photo ID (your MCard, for example, or your Driver’s License). After October 24, you must bring proof of residency in addition to your registration and voter IDs.
