How to Register

College students: you can choose to register to vote with your permanent or local address.

Some things to consider:

  • Check deadlines!
  • Are there local issues or races that you care about?
  • Which location will be easier logistically?
  • Where do you want your vote to count?
  • What’s on the ballot?

  • What’s the easiest way to register in the City of Ann Arbor?

  • What identification do I need to register in Ann Arbor?

    You’ll need two things:

    • An official photo ID, such as your Mcard
    • Either a Michigan Driver’s License (or State ID) OR the last four digits of your Social Security Number.
  • I forgot my photo ID. Can I still register in Ann Arbor?

Yes. If you don’t have a photo ID, you can still register. You’ll just need to sign a simple form called an affidavit.

  • How can I be sure that I am registered?

If you think you are already registered, it’s a good idea to double-check on the Michigan Voter Information site. If you have just recently completed a registration form and do not find your registration, check back—your registration should be active within a few weeks. If you still need help, come to a Campus Voting Hub to check (or re-register) in person.

  • I am currently registered at my permanent address. Can I change my registration to my current school address?

Yep! College students can choose to register and vote at either their permanent address or their local address. If you'd like to change your registration address, visit a Campus Voting Hub, City Hall, or TUT table to register in Ann Arbor.
