Turn Up Turnout
Turn Up Turnout (TUT) is a student organization with a presence on all three U-M campuses. We focus on nonpartisan civic engagement for all interested students, as well as voter registration, education, and turnout for those who are eligible.
Need help with getting registered?
You can find us doing registration tabling across campus throughout the semester. We’re regularly tabling at:
- Michigan Union, Wednesdays 4-7 p.m.
- Shapiro Undergrad Library, Tuesdays from 1-3 p.m.
- Duderstadt Connector, Thursdays 1-3 p.m. (in October)
For other tabling activities follow TUT instagram @umturnout.
Look for our friendly faces and TUT banners! If you have questions or need help with voter registration, don’t hesitate to stop by and talk with us. We’re here to help with:
- Voter Registration: We understand that the registration process and information can be overwhelming. Want to talk it through with a human? Let’s chat!
- Voter Education: Learn about the voting process, key dates, and how to navigate your ballot.
- Voter Turnout: We use data from the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE) to set goals for student voting rates in major elections and to target messaging and outreach to students in the schools and colleges with the lowest voting rates.
If you can’t catch us in person and still have questions, no worries! Reach out to our email at [email protected], and one of our leaders will get back to you.

Through TUT, I have participated in so many memorable and unique experiences from ushering lines at the polls on campus to presenting informational Dinners for Democracy to meeting and speaking with the Michigan Secretary of State.

Walk to the Polls
Walk to the Polls is a TUT initiative that encourages students to vote during the 9 days of early voting. Students meet in groups at a designated location and then walk together to the nearest on-campus satellite clerk's office (UMMA or Duderstadt Gallery). Those who are eligible and desire to vote in the City of Ann Arbor may then do so. TUT reps are also on hand to provide support to those who vote elsewhere. We encourage units across campus—such as schools and colleges, departments, or student organizations—to sign up to host a Walk to the Polls for their students. If you’re interested in learning more about or hosting your own Walk to the Polls, please contact Bea Kaskie, [email protected].
Want To Support Our Mission?
Aside from tabling year round across campus, we host Dinners for Democracy (D4Ds), a program series that focuses on nonpartisan voter education. The goal of Dinners for Democracy is to promote educational discussions around key issues that students care about, and to make the connection between those issues and down-ballot offices clearer. Dinner topics include the Politics of Abortion, Climate Change, Gun Violence, Student Loans, and many others. Dinners are held virtually and in person on the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses. Participants receive free food at the event, or a gift card for participating virtually!
